Privacy policy

ArcDLP runs on your computer. It has no accounts, no analytics and no telemetry, and the project never receives any data about you or what you download.

What the app connects to

  • Sites you paste in. ArcDLP hands the link to yt-dlp, which contacts that site to read the video details and download it.
  • Update check. On startup the app asks the GitHub releases API for the latest ArcDLP version. GitHub sees your IP address, as with any web request. Nothing else is sent.
  • yt-dlp updates. Only when you click Update in Settings, the app downloads the latest yt-dlp from GitHub and checks it against the published checksum.
  • Optional sign-in. If you sign in to YouTube or Instagram, you type your details into Google's or Instagram's own page. ArcDLP never sees your password. The session cookies stay on your computer and are only passed to yt-dlp for your downloads.
  • Proxy. If you set one in Settings, fetches and downloads go through the proxy you chose.

What is stored on your computer

Settings, download history (titles, links and thumbnails) and sign-in sessions are kept in the app's data folder on your computer. Settings, Reset deletes all of it, and uninstalling ArcDLP on Windows removes it as well. Downloaded files go to the folder you choose.

Third-party services and components

Requests to GitHub fall under GitHub's privacy statement. Sites you download from or sign in to apply their own privacy policies. ArcDLP bundles yt-dlp, ffmpeg and Deno, which run locally and only talk to the sites you download from.
